Maersk opened a warehouse likely about 100000 sq. in Wattala. Present at the inauguration were Maersk South Asia Managing Director Vikash Agarwal, Maersk Sri Lanka Head Biju Ravi, Aitken Spence PLC Deputy Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake and other leaders. This new warehouse has the potential to serve almost the entire Colombo market within four hours.
The company said that the opening of this ware house will be a big milestone and an important opportunity as the first step in many future investments to be made by Maersk in Sri Lanka. In addition, they told that they are expecting to leverage the prominence forward journey of Sri Lanka as a logistic hub in the region by being a contributor to grow the infrastructure in the logistic field under the sustainable investments and the company is looking forward to bring new technologies that widely uses in world in supply chain management, quality assurance in inventory systems and others.
Maersk, which is known as the second largest container shipping company in the world, is a large company with its headquarters in Denmark, owns about 685 ships, and has a market share of 14.6% in the container shipping market. Maersk operates a Global Port, Terminal and Inland Services Network with interests in 57 ports and container terminals in 36 countries on five continents, as well as 155 Inland Services operations in 48 countries.
