This week, Sri Lanka will commence the 14th round of talks on the Economic and Technology Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) with India in Colombo.
Talks resumed after a 5-year hiatus, building on the Free Trade Agreement implemented in 2000.
Areas of focus include rules of origin, dispute resolution, and technical and non-technical barriers to trade, among other issues.
This round of talks is expected to finalize negotiations towards the end of April for early cabinet clearance.
Sri Lanka is hesitant to open up the service sector, including professional services such as medicine and engineering, to protect local jobs.
